ART OF ACTIONS SPORTS
Annual design challenge for emerging artists aged 18-25 open call for BIPOC women/trans and GNC artists based in U.S. and U.S territories. Designed to discover and empower the next generation of artists through providing insight and access into the world of design and retail marketing. Opportunity to design streetwear, sharpen marketing skills and connect to their creative community.
SHREDDERS SPEAK
Shredders Speak is a conversation platform for professional, emerging ,and aspiring athletes to discuss experiences, challenges, and tips. Hosted and presented in partnership with local orgs, shops, and brands to build community and provide exposure. Launch in 2021 with Vans Channel 66. Emerging docu-series detailing the life and successes of Black and POC action sports athletes.
A.I.R - Access, Info, Resources
Hosted site visits and education tours for women/GNC/fems aged 16-24 providing access into the action sport industry. This includes, attending action sport competitive events, production/manufacturing facilities and meet and greets with professionals across management, design, media/marketing, architecture and more. As a part of the program BGS covers entry, travel/lodging, food and bev.
Initiatives
S.H.R.E.D CURRICULUM
6 month education for Black and Indigenous Action Sport Organizers. For many years the history of action sports has been told through the lens of white leaders, this curriculum aims to show the additional narratives through highlighting black action sport historians, Black liberation movement and the impact of DEI.
EQUITY IN ACTION SPORTS FUND
Rolling financial grant designed for individuals awarding $250 - $1500 to fund their access to action sport competitions and careers. Through a rolling application process, BGS will support equipment purchases, event production, lessons, admission fees, etc.
COMMUNITY POP-UP GIVEAWAYS
A packaged collection of resources and gear meant to activate skaters in various ways. Some may include a starter kit while some include tokens of appreciation and hardware upgrades.
